For over 25 years BMF has been a trusted name in the San Francisco Bay Area, transforming homes into stunning new spaces. An award winning Remodeler, we are committed to open communication, employing the best materials and methods, providing a sounding board for ideas and alternatives and respecting your home and your vision. Ultimately, taking the ordinary and creating the extraordinary.
BMF has a unique system for remodeling homes and commercial spaces. BMF operated throughout the 1980s and 1990s as a commercial Contractor, remodeling everything from offices and hospital facilities to schools and historic structures, including such Bay Area landmarks as the War Memorial Opera House and the Maritime Museum, As a commercial builder, BMF was required to create a sophisticated system to successfully complete projects, accommodating strict deadlines, performance specifications and a myriad of requirements from Architects, Engineers and Building Officials. As a result, we bring a very unique skill set to residential remodeling. Using a system with its roots in commercial building, it is efficient, assures high quality work and encourages a friendly and productive collaboration between the Owners and the building and design team.
Every client and project is unique, with their own set of objectives, concerns, budget and vision. BMF employs a flexible four phase building system which is designed to create the optimum balance of value, performance and delivery for each project. A specific crew and specialty team is assigned to each job. We do not use a “cookie cutter” method for every project, but employ the correct balance of team members, methods, materials and design to assure that particular project is successful, weather a small upgrade or a full home or commercial renovation, addition or new construction. The four phase system includes pre-planning and preparation, construction, construction review and administration and post completion client service.
Derald Norton is President and General Manager of BMF, having been with the company since 1987. After ten years in the investment industry, including stints with American Express and Merrill Lynch, Derald came to BMF with a vision to build something both unique and fun, and, at the end of the day, something satisfying for both himself and his clients. He teamed with Hugh “Tony” Bowen, already a veteran commercial Contractor for over 20 years, and learned first hand all phases of building, from foundation to roof.
Derald has been, and continues to be, active in both construction and management, having supplemented his expertise through extensive formal training in design, engineering, methods, materials and sustainable construction through the Building Industry Association, American Institute of Architects, Associated Builders and Contractors, Build It Green, National Association of the Remodeling Industry and the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, Derald has received formal certifications and recognition from NARI, BIG and EPA.
